Background information
Patients depending on prolonged mechanical ventilators in Taiwan are stepped down in the respiratory care ward (RCW) for further respiratory care. Although these patients are relatively stable with the goal of weaning off ventilators, they may occasionally experience acute symptoms or have multiple underlying comorbidities..
