FIP collaborates with a wide range of international organisations, professional bodies, patient groups, humanitarian agencies, and global health stakeholders to advance pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, pharmaceutical sciences, workforce development, and public health worldwide.
These partnerships support FIP’s mission to improve global health by enabling collaborative action across global health priority areas and professional priorities.
FIP engages through formal agreements, strategic collaborations, advisory participation, joint projects, advocacy initiatives, technical contributions, and global networks aligned with the FIP Strategic Plan 2025-2030 and the FIP Development Goals.
United Nations (UN) agencies
World Health Organization (WHO)
The WHO is an intergovernmental agency of the UN that directs and coordinates international health matters within the UN family. The WHO's mission is to direct and coordinate international health work, set global standards, and provide technical support to countries.
Since the creation of the WHO in 1948, FIP has held the status of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in official relations with the WHO. As a result, FIP is allowed to speak at the meetings of the governing bodies of the WHO and take an active role in the technical work of the WHO. Over the years, FIP has made considerable strides in its partnership with the WHO in order to expand initiatives that evolve FIP’s ultimate goal – improved well-being and health. FIP is in a unique position to advocate for pharmacists, pharmacy educators and pharmaceutical scientists’ roles in the global health agenda. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
UNESCO is a UN agency that promotes international collaboration in education, science, culture, and communication. Its mission is to build peace and sustainable development through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and policy guidance.
Through initiatives like the University Twinning and Networking Programme (UNITWIN)/UNESCO chairs programme, UNESCO fosters networks of universities and research institutions to share expertise and resources. UNESCO renewed its agreement with FIP concerning the UNITWIN Network on Global Pharmacy Education Development (GPhEd) in June 2023, affirming the objectives of strengthening research, education, competencies, and capacity. With an emphasis on equity, sustainability, and technology, the 2023–2027 agreement supports the expansion of Centres for Excellence (CfE) across all WHO regions to ensure continued regional engagement and alignment within the global UNITWIN network, advancing education and science.
