Our activities

FIP Health and Medicines Information Section (HaMIS) is continuously active in proposing, organising and co-organising webinars and sessions for the annual World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences covering topics such as digital health and mHealth innovations, advancing health equity, optimising medication adherence, developing deprescribing strategies for patient safety, and integrating information technology in healthcare. FIP HaMIS strives to achieve HaMIS mission through the following activities:

Health Literacy in Pharmacy: A Global Review of Practice and Impact
Key focus area: Health Literacy
HaMIS lead: Dr Amy Kruger Howard (United States)
This global HaMIS project aims to better understand how pharmacists and pharmacy teams are advancing health literacy. Through an international call for projects and a scoping review of the literature, the project is identifying effective interventions, populations served, outcomes achieved, and ongoing gaps in practice. Findings will inform future FIP resources, reports, and a global white paper aimed at strengthening pharmacists’ role in making health information and medicines use more understandable, accessible, and equitable worldwide.

Pharmacist Prescribing and Deprescribing: The Critical Role of Pharmacists in Promoting Safer Medication Use
Key focus area: Policy and Advocacy
HaMIS leads: A/Prof Amy Page (Australia), Dr Amanda Quek (Australia)
This global HaMIS project explores pharmacists’ roles in prescribing and deprescribing to support safer, more effective medication use. The project includes an international survey of practising pharmacists and interviews with policy and regulatory stakeholders to examine current practice, attitudes, capabilities, and support needs. The findings will inform a global white paper and policy recommendations to advance pharmacist prescribing and deprescribing practice across diverse healthcare systems.

Safe Medicines Use in Paediatrics and Pregnancy: A Global Needs Assessment and Toolkit
Key focus area: Public Health
HaMIS leads: Dr Raj K. Singh Badhan (United Kingdom) and Froukje Harkes-Idzinga (The Netherlands)
This HaMIS project aims to identify gaps in pharmacist knowledge, skills, confidence, and support needs related to medicines use in paediatric and pregnant populations. Using global surveys of healthcare professionals and patients, parents, and caregivers, the project will generate evidence to inform a practical framework, white paper, and educational toolkit. The goal is to help pharmacists deliver safer, more consistent, person-centred care for children, pregnant individuals, and their families worldwide.
