About us
The Eastern Mediterranean Region Pharmaceutical Forum (EMRPharm) was founded in 2002 and is a regional platform in FIP to advance pharmacy practice, pharmacy education and pharmaceutical sciences across the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Objectives and regional priorities
In the Eastern Mediterranean Region there has been a focus on human resources development, with training of healthcare professionals and pharmacy support personnel in many industry sectors. During 2025-2026, the Forum focused on pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, pharmaceutical workforce development, public health, regional academic collaboration, humanitarian support and strengthening the visibility of pharmacy across the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Our priority FIP Development Goals are:
- DG 2 (Early career training strategy)
- DG 10 (Equity and equality)
- DG 15 (People-centred care)
- DG 16 (Communicable diseases)
- DG 17 (Antimicrobial stewardship)
- DG 20 (Digital health)
Other key priorities are to support FIP’s humanitarian, non-communicable diseases, and sustainability in pharmacy programmes.

General assembly and governance
The current statutes of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Pharmaceutical Forum were adopted in April 2024.

Activities and projects
Integration of community pharmacy within primary health care (PHC) systems to advance universal health coverage (UHC) in the Eastern Mediterranean Region
The project will develop a regional, evidence-based roadmap that positions community pharmacy as a core contributor to primary health care (PHC) and universal health coverage (UHC) across the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR).
The objectives of the project:
- Map the current role, readiness, and regulatory environment of community pharmacy within primary health care systems across EMR countries.
- Identify policy, workforce, education, and service gaps limiting pharmacists’ contribution to UHC.
- Develop a Regional Roadmap (2026–2027) outlining priority actions for integrating community pharmacy into PHC and UHC strategies.
- Support national pharmacy organisations with adaptable country-level action templates aligned with the regional roadmap.
- Establishing an evidence-based toolkit for integrating community pharmacy into PHC and UHC.
The project is approved and funded by FIP and conducted through a regional working group.
FIP-UNESCO UNITWIN Centre for Excellence initiative
EMRPharm advanced a regional academic excellence initiative through strategic planning meetings, a regional virtual meeting with more than 650 participants, an Amman event attended by more than 22 pharmacy deans, and a Cairo event attended by more than 50 deans and senior academic leaders.
Humanitarian support for Palestinian pharmacists and students
EMRPharm coordinated educational and professional support for Palestinian pharmacy students and pharmacists displaced from Gaza, including specialised training, hospital clinical training opportunities, support for graduation requirements and coordinated academic pathways.
