Academic Pharmacy Section

About us and our objectives

FIP’s Academic Pharmacy Section was founded in 1972. Since then, all our presidents have focused on facilitating the exchange of ideas and experience of pedagogic and scientific issues concerned with the teaching of pharmacy and have encouraged members to develop creative concepts and projects in relation to pharmacy education in general. We support the vision of FIP and FIP Education by advancing pharmacy education and training to meet societal needs for improved health through medicines expertise.

"Our mission is to serve as an international source for networking, collaboration and inspiration for educators to transform pharmacy education for the purpose of advancing practice and science to meet present and future health needs in communities around the world."

Activities

Strategic goals

AcPS Executive Committee and Section members work on section activities to achieve the Section Strategic Plan 2019-2024, approved by the AcPS membership on 23rd September 2019 at the Annual Business Meeting.

In 2022, having delivered many projects and completed some objectives, the AcPS ExCo considered the need to update the 2019 Section Strategic Implementation Plan. Following a 2-day virtual ExCo Retreat in April 2022, additional input from members in July town hall meetings and through an online form, the Section Strategic Implementation Plan was updated and approved by the AcPS membership on 7th October 2022 at the virtual Annual Business Meeting. The full 2022 Section Strategic Implementation Plan can be retrieved here.

Webinars

Our section offers webinars covering contemporary topics such as experiential pharmaceutical education, leadership development and pharmacogenomics. Recent titles include “PharmAcademy: Platforms for global collaboration”, “Pharmacogenomics: Background and applications” and “Leadership development for you and your faculty team”. If you’d like to suggest a webinar topic or speaker, email aps@fip.org.

The working groups are active using the FIP project identification document using the schematic overview developed by the Academic Section ExCo.
