  Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of gum and tissues that surround and support the teeth. One approach of treating periodontitis is loading the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, Ibuprofen, in topical delivery systems to ease swelling and inflammation symptoms.
