    Influenza viruses circulate in all parts of the world causing about 3 to 5 million severe cases of illness and 250,000 to 500,000 deaths.  There are 3 types of influenza viruses – A, B and C.  Type C influenza occurs much less frequently in humans.  Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent disease and/or severe outcomes.
