FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

With an annual cohort of just 40 students, our detailed instruction arms our graduates with the knowledge and skills required to provide an informed, effective and compassionate pharmacy practice. Our firm-yet-friendly educators often remain a part of our graduates’ professional network far beyond the day they cross the stage at convocation.

Our Structured Practice Experience (SPE) program allows students to apply their university-gained knowledge and training in a practice environment – and many of the program’s preceptors are School of Pharmacy alumni who are eager to give back because of the impact their own preceptors had on their careers.

Our connections with local and national pharmacy organizations enhance our students’ success and advancement. We maintain longstanding relationships with several pharmacy associations and boards, all of who provide support for our program, and hold tremendous faith in and respect for it.

Our faculty and graduate students are passionate about research that will eventually improve and enhance our population’s health and wellbeing. We are committed to providing opportunities for undergraduate students to also gain research experience that will advance pharmacy practice.

This is a critical time for the School of Pharmacy and the pharmacy profession, as significant effort is required to ensure that pharmacists’ education keeps pace with a changing health system. Nationally, pharmacists are fulfilling a broader scope of practice in patient care through an entry-to-practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program – a critical component of developing practice-ready pharmacists who are well equipped for their new roles.

We recently completed a strategic plan, which guides us in teaching and learning, research, and public engagement to advance knowledge and improve patient outcomes.
