FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

The Faculty of Pharmacy leadership has extensive experience in hospital, clinical, industrial, academia, research, consultancy and management and this will ensure that you will be ready for the real world upon graduation.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) is a 4 years full time (8 semesters) comprising of 143 credit hours (1 credit hour is equivalent to about 40 hours of study both face to face and independent learning time). The learning process will be via lectures, tutorials, practicals, problem-based learning, case studies and experiential learning (clinical, hospital, community, industry). The focus is on student-centred learning and development of critical thinking.

The first two years of the program can be considered as pre-clinical where you will be exposed to basic medical sciences (anatomy, pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology), physical pharmacy, pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical chemistry, statistics, computer science, pharmacology, pharmacognosy. In the final two years, the focus will be on clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice. From year one, you will be exposed to experiential (hands-on) learning in the different practice areas of pharmacy i.e. community, hospital, clinical and industry.

The emphasis is given to practical skills in all core subjects. Elective courses focusing the job market such as Pharmacy Management will also be offered.

The overall objective is to provide a holistic approach to the undergraduate’s learning process.
