FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

The mission of the Union University School of Pharmacy is to develop compassionate, comprehensively trained practitioners who are equipped to meet the immediate and future demands of pharmaceutical science and patient care in an ever changing health care environment.
The vision of the Union University School of Pharmacy is to:
  • provide a Christ-centered environment that focuses on the intellectual, spiritual, and moral development of students in committing themselves to the service and needs of society
  • promote an excellence-driven academic culture that instills knowledge and advances understanding of biomedical, pharmaceutical, social/behavioural/ administrative, and clinical sciences
  • develop pharmacy students as practitioners who are people-focused in providing optimum care based on evidence and best-practice standards
  • support an academic environment that fosters the future-directed growth of students and faculty as it relates to education, practice, research, and scholarship initiatives
The Pharm.D. Program at Union University is 4 years in length. The first 2.5 years, with the exception of 2-week blocks of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences, are spent almost exclusively in the classroom and teaching labs. The final 1.5 years are spent on month-long Advanced Pharmacy Practice Rotations where the students are putting in to place everything they have learned in the classroom, laboratories and Human-Patient Simulation area.
Currently a dual Pharm.D./MBA track is available. Plans are in place to establish a residency program and research fellowship opportunities in the near future.
The brand new 57,000 square-foot pharmacy building, Providence Hall, houses the most cutting edge technology for providing students the latest in classroom learning techniques as well as hands-on learning in active research and patient care simulation.
Class size is limited to 60 students per cohort. This allows time to adequately invest in students on a personal and professional level. Fostering mentor/mentee relationships between faculty and students ensures that students receive the attention needed to succeed in this program and in the profession of pharmacy for years to come.
