Benzene is assayed as an impurity in ethanol, I and isopropyl alcohol, II at a level of 2 ppm using GC methods (B.P. 2004) . The multivariate method of analysis (PLS) has been applied to develop a rapid, simple and direct spectrophotometric method for this purpose. Second-order derivative data has been recorded for I and II in 5 cm and 1 cm..
