Recent high profile medical cases in the UK, highlighting failures in doctors' competence and performance, led to calls for the introduction of a system of regulation for all healthcare professionals. A subsequent White Paper endorsed the principle of revalidation (an assessment of a professional's fitness to practise) for the pharmacy profession
