The role of pharmacists and pharmacy in rebuilding trust in early-life nutrition in the context of infant formula recalls is highlighted in a new FIP insight board report published today.

The report brings together the perspectives of pharmacists from multiple countries on the impact of infant formula recalls, the concerns raised by parents and caregivers, and the challenges pharmacists face when supporting families during periods of uncertainty. It highlights pharmacists’ important role as accessible and trusted healthcare professionals who provide reassurance, evidence-based information and guidance when confidence in products and supply chains is affected.

Drawing on discussions from the FIP insight board, the report explores pharmacists’ experiences of recall communication, identifies gaps in pharmacist-specific information and training, and outlines practical opportunities to strengthen support for pharmacy teams. It also examines what is needed to create a more trustworthy early-life nutrition environment and the role that professional organisations can play in supporting pharmacists.

The report concludes with key opportunities for action aimed at improving communication, strengthening pharmacist preparedness and reinforcing trust in early-life nutrition.
