The 158th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board took place last week in Geneva, Switzerland, with FIP actively advocating for the pharmacy profession and stronger health systems worldwide. Throughout the meeting, FIP engaged closely with WHO departments and delivered key statements on priority global health issues.
WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted both progress in global health governance and significant challenges linked to funding reductions and health workforce shortages, including a projected global shortfall of 11 million health workers by 2030. In response, FIP called for targeted co-investment in health systems and workforce development.
FIP also reaffirmed pharmacists’ essential role in addressing antimicrobial resistance, supporting non-communicable disease care, and protecting patients from substandard and falsified medical products. For the first time, early career pharmacists joined the FIP delegation on site, strengthening youth engagement in global health advocacy.
FIP will continue its preparations ahead of the World Health Assembly in May 2026.
