FIP has expressed its support for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Catch-up Immunization Campaign in the Gaza Strip, launched last week.
The two-year conflict in the region has severely disrupted healthcare services, leaving many children vulnerable: an estimated one in five children under three have missed some or all vaccinations.
Pharmacists, as the most accessible healthcare professionals, are vital in delivering vaccination services and advancing public health. Since 2016, FIP has promoted pharmacy-based vaccination through resources, advocacy, and training, highlighting the role of pharmacists in life-course immunisation “Pharmacists continue to play a critical role in the management of the supply chain for medicines and vaccinations, even during conflict.” said FIP CEO Dr Catherine Duggan.
FIP supports the ongoing efforts by the WHO through the FIP HumanitarianRx programme, which supports colleagues in the region. Ways to support medicine, vaccines and medical supplies to Gaza can be made through supportive humanitarian charities in South Africa or the UK and are led by Pharmacists without Borders.
