“Gender pain gap” is highlighted by a FIP literature review

Gender-based disparities in pain management in pharmacy are explored in a FIP literature review published today. The work identifies elements contributing to this “gender pain gap”, and highlights biopsychosocial factors leading to different pain experiences among men and women and their impact on treatment outcomes and acceptance of pain therapies.

Tools and training, such as gender-neutral pain assessment tools, bias training programmes and frameworks for pharmacists to advocate for change through evidence-based practices, are also featured in the review.
