Background: Crocus sativus L., commonly known as saffron, is a small perennial plant from the Iridaceae family. The main constituents of this plant are volatile compounds and crocins. Saffron is used in traditional medicine for treatment of depression and cancer. Recent clinical data with preliminary character gave support for this use of saffron. ..
