In emergency departments (ED) delays in discharge are rampant due to waiting for inpatient admission, consultation, report or transport. “Holding” or “boarding” is referred to when patient is held for two hours or more after the ED discharge order has been written. Holding/boarding leads to ED crowding, ER diversion, delay in care, The access to the whole abstract and the presentation file is available to FIP members and to congress participants of that specific congress.
