Background
Hypoglycemia is an acute episode presenting to the emergency department (ED) that may be fatal, but can be prevented. While intensive blood glucose control reduces complications of diabetes, it increases the incidence of severe hypoglycemia. This somewhat limits the use of intensive glycemic control.
