The treatment of choice for a number of anxiety disorders is exposure therapy. However, successful reduction of fear through exposure is often followed by a return of fear which poses a challenge for both research and clinical practice. Reinstatement, the recovery of fear that occurs when the subject is exposed to the unconditioned stimulus (US)..
