    Background

    The histological spectrum of nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) ranges from hepatic steatosis to steatohepatitis. Redistribution of intracellular calcium from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the mitochondria can lead to ER stress, induce mitochondrial dysfunction, and accelerate the development of NAFLD to steatohepatitis
