In 2015, an outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome, MERS occurred in Korea. It was first identified in a patient from Saudi Arabia, which then was spread to 186 cases, with a death toll of 36. The lack of interoperability between the Electronic Health Record, EHR systems of hospitals was the major problem to the spread of MERS.
