The FIP Statutes describe the main structures of FIP in Article 11.1, which includes Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Focus Groups.
In March 2026, the FIP Council approved the FIP Statutes for the Sections. Article 5 explains that the FIP Sections are responsible for representing domains of pharmacy relevant to FIP’s mission and vision and are approved by the FIP Council and established by the FIP Board. SIGs will be established to comprise individuals interested in and with expertise in, specific areas of interest to the FIP Section(s), proposed by Sections or the FIP Board. Focus Groups will be based on the FIP Section executive committee (ExCo) recommendation at the Section Assembly.
Pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences education develop a competent, professionally educated pharmaceutical workforce (e.g. pharmacist practitioners, pharmaceutical scientists, pre-service students and pharmacy support workforce) for a diversity of settings (e.g. community, hospital, industry and academia), through different stages (e.g. undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education after registration) within an appropriate academic and institutional infrastructure.
Many of FIP’s initiatives and activities are designed to advance pharmacy practice, pharmacy education and pharmaceutical sciences through dynamic knowledge exchange and global engagement. All Sections, SIGs and Focus Groups each conduct numerous projects annually to foster collaboration and advance pharmaceutical practice through its different focus areas. These include digital events, regular section-specific newsletters highlighting activities, opportunities for participation and grants, and publications that foster the advancement of pharmacy practice, pharmacy education and pharmaceutical sciences. FIP is committed to fostering collaboration, ensuring practice that are grounded in science, and growing a future-ready workforce through pharmaceutical education.
All individual members of FIP are automatically members of the section of their choice. Here, members can interact with pharmaceutical colleagues with similar interests from all over the world, both virtual and in-person (such as at the annual FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences).
