Identification of useful continuing professional development strategies and sharing of experiences of supporting supply chain strategies and access to medicines have been identified as priorities following Cyclone Freddy in Malawi.
This month, FIP met with colleagues at the pharmacy department of the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences to discuss how it could further support Malawian pharmacy. Felix Khuluza, associate professor of pharmacy, reported that most pharmacy students and professionals in Malawi were engaged at various levels to help affected communities, including offering services in camps for the disaster victims. These included assessment of pharmaceutical needs, quantifying and procurement of emergency suppliers, distribution, storage and dispensing activities. FIP has provided a suite of resources to colleagues, which includes Responding to disasters: Guidelines for pharmacy.
