Today, the FIP Bureau has issued a FIP Holding Statement on the health and economic impact of e-cigarettes, and the contribution of the pharmacy workforce to preventing their harm. The statement is intended to inform governments and policymakers, FIP member organisations, pharmacy academic institutions and individual pharmacy professionals of the federation’s current position on e-cigarettes in the interim while it develops a new policy statement on tobacco use, which will include e-cigarettes. Overall, the Bureau’s current position is that e-cigarettes pose health risks, and anyone who smokes and is considering their use as an alternative should be aware of these risks and talk to their healthcare provider, including their pharmacist, about quitting smoking and using other smoking cessation tools.
