In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists are continuing to ensure that people get their treatments and professional advice, performing a valuable role in primary health care. That was the main message from FIP to health ministers at the 73rd World Health Assembly this week.
FIP’s statement to the assembly highlighted how pharmacists’ organisations around the world have speedily adopted new measures to ensure the continuity of care, such as organising home delivery of medicines and using telepharmacy to support vulnerable patients and those with chronic diseases. The statement also gave focus to pharmacists’ role in ensuring an effective pharmaceutical supply chain by identifying medical products at risk of shortage and implementing mitigation plans, including compounding hand sanitisers.
“As anticipated, for the first time, the 73rd World Health Assembly was held virtually. The agenda was reduced to two days, limiting opportunities for all non-government organisations to participate.
