Today, at the opening of the 84th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Montreal, Canada, FIP Member Organisation the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) received the Health Promotion Campaign Award for "Operation STORM," a project designed to disrupt the escalating crisis of substance and opioid abuse among teenagers. Focusing on prevention and early intervention, the campaign has over the past two years reached more than 17 high schools across Ghana with structured educational interventions, run large-scale seminars on the health, psychological and social consequences of misuse, provided one-to-one mentoring for students.
The FIP Joseph A. Oddis Award for Exceptional Service to FIP was presented to Mr Lars-Åke Söderlund of Sweden, recognising the commitment he has shown the federation since becoming a member in 1984.
FIP also recognised 16 other pharmacy professionals from nine countries. The Early Career in Pharmaceutical Sciences Recognition Award went to Zaid Almaayah (Qatar), the Exceptional Pharmaceutical Education Award to Parisa Aslani (Australia), and the Olivier Bugnon Award to Amanda Cavness (USA).
Thirteen new FIP Fellows were also named: Abeer Al Ghananeem (UAE); Wael Ali (Egypt); Leticia Caligaris (Uruguay); Matthew Cherian (USA); Paul J. Gallagher (Ireland); Linda Garrelts MacLean (USA); John Jackson (Australia); Carlos Lucava (Uruguay); Igor Linhares de Castro (Brazil); Silvana Nair Leite (Brazil); Veronika Seda (Australia); Tracey Thornley (UK); and Michael Ward (Australia).
