FIP calls for protection of civilians and healthcare teams in Middle East conflict

FIP is urging all parties involved in the ongoing war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, and its regional escalation across the Gulf region and neighbouring countries, including Iraq and Lebanon to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.

In a position statement published today, FIP condemns violence that disrupts health services and limits access to life-saving care.

The federation stressed that access to healthcare is a fundamental human right and called for the immediate cessation of actions endangering patients and providers. It also urged respect for humanitarian assistance and uninterrupted access to medicines.

Pharmacists have an ethical duty and professional responsibility to contribute to health service delivery in emergencies. FIP has a Statement of Policy on the role of the pharmacist in disaster management, including in situations of armed conflict, civil unrest, natural disasters, and public health emergencies.
