Managing musculoskeletal pain in community pharmacies is explored in a report from a FIP insight board today. The board, gathering community pharmacists, policy experts and researchers, discussed the pharmacological (analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants) and non-pharmacological (pulsed short duration therapy devices and heat and cold therapy) approaches for symptom relief in patients with muscle and joint pain. The board also shared views on the barriers, training and resources needed for pharmacists to effectively guide self-care of this type of pain.
