Giovanni M. Pauletti, associate professor of biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, is to take on the role of Scientific Secretary of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). The appointment was ratified at the FIP Council meeting today. Professor Pauletti will take office on 5 October 2015.

Professor Pauletti, who is also director of the graduate programme in pharmaceutical sciences at his university, expressed his dedication to further integrating meaningful scientific education into the contemporary training of pharmacists in order to provide the highest level of pharmaceutical care activities — all of which ties in with a new strategic focus on education that is set out in FIP's mission.

“Today, successful drug development and safe drug utilisation critically depend on synergistic interaction between scientific communities beyond the traditional scope of pharmaceutical sciences. I foresee tremendous opportunities for growth of FIP in the future by reaching out to those communities with the objective to broaden the impact of contemporary science in patient care,” he said.

Professor Pauletti plans specifically to focus on improved engagement between students and young pharmacists as well as pharmaceutical scientists in FIP.

The FIP Scientific Secretary is one of three members of FIP’s Executive Committee.
