The first legal attempt to systematize the teaching of technical diagnostics and therapeutics (TDT) in Portugal appeared in 1953 (). In practice, the educational evolution began in 1961, in the Training and Technical Centers in Clinical Services Assistants (), extended in 1980 by the Training and Technical Centers for Diagnosis and Therapy..
