  In 1963 the first GMP regulation for pharmaceuticals were finalized as a consequence of several tragedies involving medicines of poor quality as well as reveal of unsanitary factory conditions. It has been a mandatory standard since and yet compliance or maybe more critical - non-compliance is still an issue.
