  The pipeline of new antimicrobials is today almost dry. There is therefore a need to boost development and innovation and recently several public and private investments have been made in this area. For example, the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) with support from the European Commission and major pharmaceutical companies (through EFPIA)
