FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

Human resource development is one of the priorities in nation building. The determination of the development of defense human resources in the health sector is one of the priorities in facing the threat of state defense and national security. The problem of global threats in the health sector also has a major influence on world security, especially in the field of global health security (Global Health Security), one of which is the threat of the spread of weapons of mass destruction. A vivid example is chemical, biological, nuclear, and explosive weapons wars. The world pharmaceutical organization Federation of Internationale Pharmaceutics (FIP) launched Military Pharmacy and Emergency in 2016 and established a Task Force in 2019 to develop military and emergency pharmaceuticals as part of the practice of pharmaceutical personnel. Various forms of real threats such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, terrorism, drug abuse, and unreal threats such as the threat of espionage, and acts of separatism, require special handling that will be able to be carried out by trained and specific expertise human resources.

The role of pharmaceutical health workers in overcoming these threats has long been known but has not been able to be implemented optimally due to the shortage of pharmaceutical personnel who have specific expertise and are trained. The lack of interest in graduates of pharmacy personnel from universities who have a commitment to play a role in the field of military pharmacy is a real obstacle that further weakens the function of handling the threat. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare personnel who have these specific skills through the opening of the Faculty of Pharmacy with the strengthening of the military.

The Faculty of Military Pharmacy is one of the undergraduate-level faculties at the Republic of Indonesia Defense University. The existence of the Faculty of Military Pharmacy is a strengthening of the military in the field of pharmacy. The establishment of the development of defense personnel in the health sector is one of the priorities in the face of threats to national defense and national security. Therefore, it is necessary to take special care of trained human resources and have specific expertise so that the role of health workers, especially pharmaceuticals, can be optimally applied.
