FIP has launched a FIP Montreal Declaration on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), reaffirming its commitment to advancing pharmacy's contribution to preventing and managing one of the world's greatest health challenges. The declaration was signed by FIP president Paul Sinclair and Deb Saltmarche from the Canadian Pharmacists Association during the second plenary session in Canada today. FIP Member Organisations are also invited to sign the declaration at the 2026 FIP world congress. The declaration is further supported by a number of FIP partner organisations.

It marks the next step in FIP's global advocacy efforts. Following the launch of the FIP Copenhagen Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance in 2025, which mobilised member organisations around coordinated action to combat antimicrobial resistance, FIP has identified NCDs as a key advocacy priority for 2026. This reflects the global momentum created by the United Nations' focus on NCDs and mental health and well-being, and the need to translate international commitments into practical action.

Through the Montreal declaration, FIP calls for policies that enable pharmacists to practise to the full extent of their expertise in prevention, screening, early detection, treatment optimisation and long-term management of NCDs. It also highlights the need for sustainable remuneration, workforce development, digital health, interprofessional collaboration and equitable access to pharmacy services.

The declaration further commits FIP and its member organisations to supporting national implementation through strengthened pharmacy services, measurable outcomes and the sharing of best practices, contributing to more resilient and sustainable health systems.
