The FIP South East Asian Region Pharmaceutical (SEARPharm) Forum has expanded its project, "Empowering community pharmacists for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)," with two new training sessions in southern India. Following the launch in May, sessions were held in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, India, this month, training 95 community pharmacists.

Delivered with the Community Pharmacy Division of FIP member organisation the Indian Pharmaceutical Association and local partners, the project is one of India's first structured programmes designed to equip community pharmacists to deliver NCD-related services within their communities. The sessions were led by Manjiri Gharat, project lead and vice president of the SEARPharm Forum, alongside local physicians and host faculty at the Vikas Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the St. Peter's Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The sessions covered hypertension screening and blood pressure measurement, risk communication and patient counselling, vaccination across the life course, adherence monitoring and patient follow-up, and the use of standard patient record formats. All participants received practical toolkits and will benefit from ongoing technical assistance in the coming months. The initiative reinforces the evolving role of pharmacists as accessible and trusted partners in health care, under the message "Think Health, Think Pharmacy."
