Today, FIP has published a new report and an infographic examining how pharmacists support self-care in community pharmacy and primary health care settings around the world. Drawing on 779 respondents from 45 countries, the FIP Multinational Needs Assessment offers a snapshot of current practice, pharmacists' confidence and the support that would strengthen pharmacy-led self-care. The report is being launched during FIP's digital event on pharmacist-supported self-care on 24 July 2026.
As one of the most accessible healthcare professionals, pharmacists are central to self-care, advising on common ailments, guiding safe use of medicines, spotting concerning signs and referring patients when needed. The report highlights that this is a regular part of frontline practice, and points to clear opportunities to build on it.
Supported by Opella, the report highlights that pharmacists and pharmacy teams need to be recognised, equipped, connected and sustainably supported, so that pharmacy-led self-care can strengthen primary health care and advance universal health coverage.
