FIP side event at WHA addresses access to medicines in humanitarian crises

The second FIP side event at the 79th session of the World Health Assembly was held today in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Titled “Addressing the impact of complex crises on global health through safe and sustainable access to medicine and strengthening pharmaceutical contributions to humanitarian action,” FIP highlighted pharmacists' role in humanitarian settings using their expertise to get essential medicines and pharmacy services to people hit by conflict, disaster and extreme poverty. The event was moderated by FIP CEO Catherine Duggan. Speakers included FIP president Paul Sinclair; Rodrigo Cataldi, WHO technical officer and technical lead on access to medicines in WHO’s NCDs and mental health department; Petra Khoury, global director for health and care at IFRC; Cecile Terraz, director for global humanitarian services and supply chain management at IFRC; and Raquel Martínez, Secretary General of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain and FIP vice president. The panel discussion was led by Robert Moss.
