3rd International Symposium on Scientific and Regulatory Advances in Biological and Non-Biological Complex Drugs: A to Z in Bioequivalence

Hotel Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget, Budapest, Hungary

Description

The symposium will address major regulatory aspects of biological and non-biological complex drugs (NBCDs) and the paradigm shift compared to the requirements for fully characterized small molecular drugs and the established formulations. The symposium will also discuss advances in bioanalytical methodologies to characterize these complex drugs including nanostructures affecting biodistribution. Case studies will be presented to specifically focus on the bioequivalence evaluation of complex drugs. The symposium will also provide an update on harmonization attempts for bioequivalence of small molecular drugs with an insight into drug dissolution/drug release and bioanalytical advances, including the use of Mass Spectrometry (MS), as a most progressively developing (bio-)analytical technics today.

Webinar: Clostridium difficile infection management and outcomes: considerations in a resource-limited setting

14:00 CET, Online

Description

C. difficile infection (CDI) is understudied in low-resource settings. A recent epidemiology, management and outcomes study in South Africa found a significant risk of in-hospital mortality in patients who tested positive for C. difficile. Opportunities to improve management will be described. While metronidazole was found to be the most common initial therapy, recent evidence proves vancomycin is more efficacious. Considerations for the clinical use of metronidazole compared with vancomycin in a resource-limited setting will be presented.

Speakers: Laurel Legenza, PharmD, MS — interim director of global health and an assistant scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Pharmacy, Madison, USA Renier Coetzee, BPharm, MPharm, PharmD — senior lecturer at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa School of Pharmacy

Chair: John Hertig, PharmD, MS, CPPS — associate professor, Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Indianapolis, USA
