Background
In the Malay World, native doctors and pharmacists were known to exist through mentions in ancient literatures. There is little physical evidence due to degradation through time and climate.Methods
I conducted a survey of Malay medical manuscripts concerning the Riau islands, and continued with a field work to the island of Penyengat.R..
