    Backgrounds

    Yokukansan (YK) and Yokukansan-ka-chinpihange (YKCH), Japanese Kampo-medicines containing licorice, are currently used for behavioral and psychological symptoms in patients with dementia. Hypokalemia associated with licorice-induced pseudoaldosteronism is a major side effect for both drugs, though the risk factors remain unclear.
