Literature search on stroke burden in Ghana from MEDLINE and Google Scholar, January 1, 1900 to May 31, 2013 showed stroke to be among top five causes of deaths in Ghana¹. Major risk factors of stroke were systemic hypertension (85%), physical inactivity (73%), obesity (58%), hypercholesterolemia (47%), type 2 diabetes mellitus (38%)².
