FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

Welcome to the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy website! For more than a century, the College has been a leader in pharmacy education, practice, and research. In fact, the U.S. News and World Report magazine recently ranked the College as one of the top 20 pharmacy schools in the nation. We are fully accredited by the American Council for Pharmacy Education and are currently the only fully accredited College of Pharmacy in the state of Tennessee.

The College has successfully recruited and retained a very high quality faculty, that consists of nationally and internationally recognized educators, practitioners, pharmaceutical scientists and leaders in academic pharmacy. Student pharmacists receive an exceptional education because of the excellence of our faculty, staff, student services, curriculum and experiential learning programs. Our students are among the brightest in the nation. The percentage of graduates of the College who passed the national boards on the first attempt has been 98.5% or greater for the past 15 years. Our student pharmacists also possess a heart to serve humankind. One of the major strengths of the College is the national recognition of our student organizations and professional fraternities via awards for excellence. These accolades demonstrate not only the quality of our student body, but the College’s commitment to student professionalism and community service.

The College offers a curricular program designed to produce skilled, caring, and culturally competent pharmacists who are prepared to optimize medication use, ensure patient safety, and pursue advanced training in clinical specialties and pharmaceutical research. Perhaps the best gauge of our success resides in the achievements of graduates from our doctor of pharmacy, graduate, and post-doctoral residency programs who now serve as valued health care professionals, company and industry executives, community leaders, professors, and deans. Our 4338 alumni are located in 45 states and serve as highly skilled pharmacists in virtually all practice settings.

The University of Tennessee is dedicated to maintaining and advancing its position as a leader in pharmacy education. We continue to improve and nurture our programs in order to offer a variety of academic and clinical experiences that give our graduates a powerful edge in today's competitive health care market.

We want only the best and brightest students for the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. Most importantly, we want student pharmacists who are ready to add their individual stamps of honesty, intelligence, humor, integrity, and hard work to the profession of pharmacy.

As an alumnus of the College, I am extremely proud of our students, faculty, alumni and The University of Tennessee. I hope you will take the time to learn more about The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy and our commitment to our students, our community, and to our profession.
