8th European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products

Edinburgh International Conference Centre, UK

Description

The ECRD is the only event which, from its small beginnings, has united all rare disease stakeholders from all European nations- patients and patient representatives, healthcare professionals and researchers, industry, payers, regulators and policy makers alike- in the fight against rare diseases. The ECRD now brings together over 80 speakers and more than 800 participants, covering six themes of content over two days: from the latest research, to developments in new treatments, to innovations in healthcare, social care and support at the European, national and regional levels. New meeting formats to enhance the on-site learning experience will be showcased for the first time in Edinburgh and will include a speed networking session to connect patients, researchers and industry, an open-house “soap box” lunch session, interactive roundtables, audience polling, networking lunches / coffee breaks and dedicated poster sessions. The focus in 2016 will be on Game Changers in Rare Diseases. We will also be holding pre-conference tutorials, which will ensure that you are equipped to learn as much as possible from the conference.

Impact of Science 2016

De Balie, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Description

Inspired by the success of last years, we are organising the Impact of Science conference in Amsterdam under the Network for the Assessment and Evaluation of the Societal Impact of Science (AESIS), which was launched at the 2015 conference. Relevant stakeholders in the societal impact from around the world gather to to exchange best practices and understand the possibilities and impossibilities of demonstrating and stimulating the impact science has on society. Crowd- 6771Our society is increasingly focused on requiring justification for the investments made in scientific research. The methods for demonstrating the societal impact are advancing but many challenges remain. Reliable data regarding the impact of scientific research for our economy, our culture and our well-being should become available. It becomes crucial to communicate the e benefits of investments in scientific research. Research funders, policy makers, research organisations and other stakeholders are struggling with the question: how to stimulate impact effectively and maintain a consistent high quality of the research? During interactive sessions these topics will be discussed by experts from the perspective of knowledge creators, policy makers & funders and knowledge users (both private and public).

76th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2016

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Description

During the 2016 FIP Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists will rise to the challenge to reduce the global disease burden. Are you prepared to take this challenge? Of the top 10 causes of death around the world, nine are diseases. Heart disease, stroke, HIV/AIDS, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, diabetes and diarrheal diseases are among this list. But the burden of disease is not just about the years of life lost due to death; it is also about years lost due to living in less than full health. As a result, there has been an effort to change from a sickness care model to a health model. Our role in improving the outcomes of treatments is the essence of the pharmacy profession and of pharmaceutical scientists. Creating, preparing and providing medicines is based on this role. Moving from a sickness model to a health model means that pharmacy is also now about disease prevention and health promotion.

FIP-CPS Webinar: Back to basics: the respiratory system and chronic respiratory disorders.

Online, 3pm-4pm CEST (Netherlands)

Description

Chronic respiratory diseases (CRD), such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, kill more than four million people every year and affect hundreds of millions more. These diseases erode the health and well-being of the patients and have a negative impact on families and societies, and constitute a serious public health problem in all countries throughout the world. As an international federation of organisations of pharmacists, it is the mission and responsibility of FIP to address issues that broadly affect health and well-being across the globe. Despite the widespread assumption that the problem is one that only affects the developed world, chronic diseases are pandemic. The report by the World Health Organization (WHO), “Preventing Chronic Diseases: a vital investment” provides a background for FIP and its members to become actively involved in educating and advocating for the resolution of this issue. The aim of this series of webinars is to enable pharmacists throughout the world to provide better care for patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases: (I) Describe the general background for chronic respiratory disorders. (II) Explain the different therapies available. (III) Outline how to help patients make the most of the therapies available, effectively and safely. (IV) Describe different potential services from community pharmacists for CRD patients. SPEAKER: Johnathan Laird

2nd International Symposium on Scientific and Regulatory Advances in Complex Drugs (SRACD 2016)

Budapest, Hungary

Description

The symposium will focus on biologicals and non-biological complex drugs (NBCDs). These complex drugs require a paradigm shift for regulatory approval compared to the requirements for small molecules. These complex drugs are difficult to fully characterize and the tight control of the manufacturing process makes the specific product. The symposium will discuss biologicals and NBCDs, what they are and why are they different, scientific and regulatory advances in bioanalytical methodologies to characterize these biologicals, complex drugs and nanoparticles. SRACD 2016 will present similarities between biologicals and NBCDs. It will focus on potential challenges in therapeutic equivalence evaluation of NBCDs like nanomedicines, iron sucrose complexes, glatiramoids, liposomes and complex ophthalmic emulsions.

EUFEPS Annual Meeting - Clinical Outcome and Regulatory Approaches for Advanced Drug Delivery Products

The Marmara Hotel, Antakya, Turkey

Description

The EUFEPS Annual Meeting 2016 will be organized in Antalya on November 2-4, 2016 at The Marmara Hotel. The theme of the EUFEPS 2016 meeting is “Clinical Outcome and Regulatory Approaches for Advanced Drug Delivery Products”. As the pharmaceutical world is moving towards more specialized treatments and safer and more efficient administration of existing therapeutic molecules, advanced drug delivery techniques such as non-biological complex drugs (NBCDs), biologics/biotech products, inhaler systems, combination products and modified release products are gaining importance in this current “post blockbuster drug era”. Rapid developments in biosimilar and nanosimilar products also underline the growing need for harmonization and drawing of clear regulatory paths for these innovative systems and their follow-on products. Personalized medicine and treatments based on pharmacogenomic-pharmacogenetic approaches can be a beacon in increasing the efficacy and safety of innovative treatment while manufacturing and upscaling issues and new biomaterials and techniques need to be explored to render optimum quality attributes to advanced technology pharmaceuticals .
