Born and educated in Zimbabwe, Mike worked in hospital and community pharmacy and was active in many areas of the profession before moving to USA in 2001. Mike is Assistant Executive Director, Professional Affairs, and Director, International Services at ACPE, the US national accrediting body for pharmacy education. Mike’s primarily focus is professional and international collaboration and strategic initiatives to advance quality in pharmacy education. Mike coordinated the revision of ACPE’s 2007 PharmD Standards and is a global leader in initiatives to introduce a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) approach to lifelong learning. His publications and work in this area are widely cited. On behalf of the Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy, Mike co-authored a major work describing the scope of practice of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the USA. Mike has served on FIP’s Bureau, Board of Pharmaceutical Practice (BPP), Foundation for Education and Research, and Community Pharmacy and Academic Section’s executive committees. While on the CPS Executive Committee, Mike chaired a working group on Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in Developing Countries and drafted recommendations for step-wise implemention, which were subsequently adopted and published by FIP. Mike founded the International Forum for Quality Assurance of Pharmacy Education and drafted the Global Framework for Quality Assurance of Pharmacy Education. In 2008, the Framework was adopted and launched by the Global Pharmacy Education Taskforce – a joint initiative of FIP, the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNESCO. Mike is Education Lead for Quality Assurance and was Co-Lead for Continuing Education/Continuing Professional Development in the Education Development Team of FIP’s Education Initiative (FIPEd). Mike co-authored the Second Edition of the Global Quality Assurance Framework (2014). Mike has been a consultant and speaker in over 60 countries and has worked with the WHO on matters relating to quality assurance and self-assessment in pharmacy education.
