2017 Annual report published: Serving global health

The diverse work of pharmaceutical educators, pharmaceutical scientists and pharmacists, all in the service of global health, is documented in FIP’s latest annual report, published today. The report, “Serving global health”, highlights the many achievements FIP and its worldwide network of experts and national member organisations made in 2017 and outlines FIP’s current areas of work. “Let us be in no doubt that the pharmacy profession has a firm place in the universal health coverage agenda, and there is much more we can offer. It is through working together in the service of global pharmacy that, ultimately, we serve global health,” said FIP president Carmen Peña. Click here to read the report.

FIP’s work highlighted by WHO DG in report on addressing medicines shortages

“Countries with a lower number of pharmacists per capita are more likely to have reduced access to medicines, as pharmacists are needed at every stage of the pharmaceutical supply chain,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, has said in his report on addressing the global shortage of medicines and vaccines presented at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, this week.

Focus on pharmacists’ supply chain expertise in order to improve access to medicines, FIP says

Inefficient pharmaceutical supply chains are partly to blame for a substantial proportion of the world still being without access to basic live-saving medicines, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) says in a new report, published today. The report, “Pharmacists in the supply chain: The role of the medicines expert in ensuring quality and availability”, is released in a landscape of challenges such as substandard and falsified medicines, and a shortage of human resources in the health supply chain. “The need to ensure effective and safe medicines supply prompted FIP to take a close look at the actual role of pharmacists in pharmaceutical supply chains. This report aims to provide a foundation from which improvement can develop,” said FIP’s Working Group on Pharmacists in the Supply Chain chair Ulf Janzon.
