FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

Established in 1997 as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School's location in the Kochi campus makes it ideally situated to offer high quality infrastructure for training and research in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The goal of the Amrita School of Pharmacy is not only to excel in the field of education, but also to conduct social and charitable outreach programs and there by mould a new battalion of highly competent Pharmacy Professionals.

The Amrita School of Pharmacy is housed in a self-contained calm and quiet four storied building with a built up area of about 90,000 sq.ft. It has 13 laboratories, a full fledged library and all other facilities for academic programmes , at UG, PG and research levels. The School also has programmes for phytochemists to do research on isolation of molecules of herbal drugs as part of pharmacological studies, with phased clinical trials. A long-term goal is to train herbal pharmacists who can help bridge the gap between allopathy and Ayurveda.

The School of Pharmacy offers the Bachelor in Pharmacy Degree (B.Pharm), Pharm.D. (Regular), Pharm.D. (Post Baccalaureate), Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) and other new innovative programmes in Pharmacy and other various professional services at the school and hospital. Currently the School is having departments like Pharmaceutics, PharmaceuticalChemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology. Additionally the School provides educational services in computer sciences and Mathematics for the students of Pharmacy School.

The School gives due weightage to industrial, hospital, community, clinical and research aspects of pharmacy. It utilizes the wide variety of resources available at the various centers of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) and the University for providing theoretical and practical training and orientation to the students. The School gives equal prominence to industrial pharmacy and research aspects of clinical pharmacy. The students are encouraged and motivated to take part in the charitable outreach work of AIMS.

The School and the University are accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' Grade.
