Dr. Oliver Yoa-Pu Hu is a distinguished chair professor of the National Defense Medical Center and Academia Sinica. He received his PhD from the University of Florida in 1984. Dr. Hu was appointed as a visiting professor of Johns Hopkins University; Chair Professor of Taipei Medical University and Fu Jen Catholic University; Adjunct Professor of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and National Taiwan University. Prof. Hu has been granted 60 patents and is the author of over 150 original research articles . Currently, a novel analgesic, with a 3-8 days duration has been approved by TFDA; phase III trials have been completed for another three new drugs (anti-TB and antidote for acetaminophen intoxication) from Porf. Hu’s inventions. Since 1984, Professor Hu has received over 20 national and international awards. In 2006, Dr. Hu was awarded the honor of academic fellowship of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (FAAPS) and The Fellow of National Academy of Invention (FNAI) for the last ten years. In 1998, Dr. Hu was appointed as the Director-General of the Bureau of the Pharmaceutical Affairs of Taiwan. In 2008~2016, Dr. Hu was nominated by the President to become a Minister without Portfolio for the Taiwan, Republic of China (ROC), and this was approved by the Congress of Taiwan, also responsible for the examination and evaluation of all civil servants and 87 professionals.
