Biographies Speakers


Professor Duwiejua is a professor of pharmacology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He is a past Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education in Ghana. Professor Duwiejua has extensive knowledge of higher education in African countries. Having worked closely with the Ministry of education and its agencies, tertiary education institutions and development partners on formulating policies for funding higher education in Ghana, he understands the challenges of resource constraints in professional education. Prior to the appointment as Executive Secretary, Professor Duwiejua had over 20 years academic experience. He occupied several academic positions like Head of Department, Vice-Dean and Dean in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the KNUST. In these positions he led in development of many courses as well as resource mobilisation. Professor Duwiejua has worked in several African countries as either an external examiner or consultant in universities within Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Gambia, Namibia, Liberia and South Africa. He has also been an executive member of the West Africa Postgraduate College of Pharmacists and consulted for the West African Health Organisation (WAHO). Professor Duwiejua is an active member of the FIP’s education development team and one of the leading members of the Africa Centre’s of Excellence, an initiative of the academic section of the FIP.
