Background information: Chronic venous disease affects around 35% of the Portuguese population and 7 in 10 women over the age of 30. In addition to the significant impact, it has on patients' quality of life, it is responsible for 1,000,000 lost workdays annually and 8 per cent of early retirements in Portugal.
